#5 When goodness turns into an architectural masterpiece that lasts for hundreds of years.
For a long time ago, the Egyptian people have been known for their generosity and love for doing good without asking anything in return. Wherever you go, you find a place for benevolence in all the Egyptian neighborhoods. Generosity is a treasure which the Egyptians have inherited through time.
One of those treasures is " Ruqayya Dudu " water fountain. It is located in the depths of Souq El-Selah Street and it mirrors aspects of philanthropy in ancient Egypt. However, like many Egyptian monuments, this water fountain or sabil has fallen victim to negligence.
During my last visit to the Sabil of Ruqayya Dudu was charmed by the beauty of its architecture, which withstood all those years and all harsh conditions. I also saw many inscriptions decorating its walls and the copper ceiling which ornates the upper room of the sabil, giving it a magical appearance.
I also heard the neighborhood dwellers say that many thieves tried to steal a lot of precious artifacts from inside the sabil, such as the copper windows. For this reason, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities took the initiative to close it as a kind of protective measure. Also, the Ministry started a restoration process to revive it again.
Your visit to this rare architectural masterpiece may leave in your memory a distinctive mark. You will remember it forever and remember the Egyptian generosity which they have inherited a long time ago. Also, your visit may contribute to speed up the restoration process, so Sabil of Ruqayya Dudu can be restored to its glory once again.
